Our heroine is back, and the stakes continue to grow even as her role in the Prince’s army continues to expand. A long winter layover does little to cool her Prince’s mercurial temper, and soon she finds herself slogging through the mud en-route to the next stop on the Stag’s tour of the kingdom the Frog Lands.

Surrounded by allies—some trustworthy, and others…well, not so much—Falon Rankin continues to do her duty in the hope of securing her family’s holdings and personal survival, while often oblivious to the machinations at work all around her.

Old Madame Tulla’s designs continue to unfold, but no one can yet guess at the true nature of the Old Blood Witch’s true plans—least of all Falon.

Will Falon finally be discovered for the girl she really is? Will Mama Muirgheal be able to rescue her from the misery of army life? And will Duncan and Ern ever stop acting like a couple of dirt clods?

The Channeling Rise of the Witch Guard Book 3 eBook Luke Sky Wachter Pacific Crest Publishing Caleb Wachter Reviews

I am enjoying the story of Falon, the girl posing as a boy and developing warrior, leader and witch skills. The books need some english language editing, but the core story is interesting.
I am very upset that I did not know these three books were more of an prelude of a long series instead of a complete story. I am still waiting for the previous series of the little Admiral to be finished. Now I have two uncompleted series from this Author, and I know I don't like his brothers books. They are too long in descriptions(All sizzle and no Steak ) without any story. Please finish something someday soon. I do like your books but...D a n g
While I would personally prefer the author finish the Admiral's War saga before embarking on his fantasy writing, there were only a couple of things that bothered me about this novel. The main thing was the sudden and unexpected resurrection of Seargent Gearalt. After having died in book 2. He is suddenly alive and well in book 3. Also, there was no mention of the actual ramsom paid by Sir Falon's eldest brother after the frog battle.
What I foresee in the King's battle coming up is Sir Falon rescuing Prince Michael and capturing the Pink Princess. The rescue of the Prince would allow her to FINALLY free herself and her battalion from the endless warring and perhaps get the Prince's share of the war loot in lieu of all the pay denied them for the past year. The Pink Princess' ransom, would be the lands North of the mountains of the southern kingdom (after the Swans loot the royal castle and treasury so the southern King has nothing else to ransom his daughter with.) so Sir Falon becomes Duke Falon of a free Duchy. which is more than 150 miles of mountain pass, but has, in fact, vast, undiscovered valleys of fertile land just over a couple of mountains from the pass. But is only found by her barbarian sworn men who go foraging during the long transit.
Meh. I spend too much time trying to visualize where the stories are going after I finish a novel. Everything after the first paragraph is pure daydreaming.
I really liked the first two books. However, in the end this third book simply wasn’t necessary. That’s the only way I can describe it. Should a fourth ever be published you could skip right past this one and never miss a beat. Obviously a pretty big drop in story quality. By the points

--Short (about 250 pages). If it’s going to be so long between books (usually a year), the readers need a bit more per serving. This story is like snacking on a small bag of airplane peanuts by only eating one nut per flight. The whole bag goes stale and the tiny morsel you do get is unfilling.
--The story ends pretty much exactly where it began. Falon went off and fought another battle in the midlands, but there’s no change in the story. She’s still a lieutenant. Her battalion is pretty much the same. Her powers are pretty much the same. One of the things that made the story great in the past was how disaster turned into miraculous outcome that promoted her status in the world at seemingly every step.
--The one good point was Falon’s major increase in maturity.
--The struggles Falon faced were nowhere near as epic or detailed as in previous books
--Her eclectic army didn’t really shine. It was all Falon all the time. Bad Scales, the people from her village, Darius, her young wizard… all pretty much stood there like scenery.
--The nobles were silly and annoying
--There’s a weird mix of “ye olde English” and modern slang that just threw me for a loop. It’s a bit disorienting to hear something like “That’s rad m’lord”
--The magic by the new blood has a scheme like old cellphones and towers? That was a unique idea. Points for uniqueness, but I’ll have to see the relevance in future books.
--Nothing revealed in the witch arc. Some setup, but no real info.
Not on par with his other works, this book reads like a place holder, with no real development of the main character, not is skill, strength wealth or social standing. their was little new discovery of the world, and not a lot of action. disappointed as I am I enjoyed the rest enough to continue.
An excellent addition to the series. While not quite as epic as the first two, this continues to flesh out the overall world, and continues Falon's development. With her freedom form the hag, Tulla, and discovering a brother thought lost was alive, and her magic really starting to sprout, Falon continues toward her destiny. She even is starting to learn how the Kingdom's wizards do their magic. Maybe she can start mixing her Old Blood magic with the new wizard style of magic, becoming a hybrid stronger than either of the two source styles.

The machinations by the Prince are leading to some unknown end and in the meantime, Tulla continues her scheming and a Old Blood Witch Queen arises. What this means I don't know, but I do suspect that when all these forces come together, Falon will be ground zero for the fireworks, and indeed, be a major player in the results. I can hardly wait. Please keep telling us Falon's story, Mr. Wachter. It is terrific.
In practice this book brings nothing. The main character does not really make any significant progress powers/or character-wide.
The story is a repeat of the basics from the previous books. A march and a battle. Ok read but .
Great series of books, wished the author would write more as this last book leaves you hanging.
